Green and Black Poison-Dart Frog!!!

The colors of the poisonous dart frog (Dendrobates auratus) make it very attractive, but is also serves as a warning.  Normally, when we see distinctive colors in amphibians and reptiles, it is a good sign they can be poisonous like this frog.
This is a very shy species of frog, and its behavior is to reside on the floor of the forest.  It eats small insects, often eating many little ants.  Many of these ants have acid which forms a kind of toxin in the glands of its back and when they are sweating the skin is poisonous.  It is only dangerous if you touch it and, thanks to that characteristic, the frog does not have many predators. They are solitary creatures.  When we are walking in the forest we can listen to its song which sounds like ¨grr grr grr¨.  When you hear this, the green dart frog is marking its territory and, at the same time, it is trying to attract the attention of the females.
This frog is found in the Caribbean and Pacific side of Costa Rica.  In Manuel Antonio and Arenas del Mar, it can seen on the canopy tour, rainmaker hike and close to rivers around the area!!!
