THE TOUCAN WHO CAME FOR BREAKFAST

We were in the restaurant, it was a quiet morning, our guests were enjoying their breakfast… when a loud noise like a whistle attracted the attention of all who were in the area! Suddenly all together we saw a beautiful bird and realized it was a Fiery-billed Aracari, a type of toucan! In Costa Rica, we have five different species of toucans. Aracaris belong to a family called Ramphastidae and their bills are often vividly colored. This family of toucans are known to lodge in tree holes socially throughout the year. Largely frugivurus, they vary their diet with insects and other invertebrates, small lizards and snakes, bird eggs and nestlings. They roam through upper levels of humid forest and adjacent clearings in bands of 10 or less seeking food and are endemic from the central and southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Everyone at Arenas del Mar was pleased with the spectacle created by the sighting of this amazingly beautiful bird.
